Dance of Awareness

Dance of Awareness

Weekend Urban Retreat with Subhanaya, Jane Belshaw and Maitrivira

A weekend of dance and meditation - taking an embodied approach to the traditional Buddhist teaching of the four foundations of mindfulness - of body, feelings, mind and awareness.

We’ll practice slowing down and sensing into the subtle details of arising experience in dance and meditation, weaving between and combining these two aspects of practice – movement and stillness – to explore and deepen qualities of presence and aliveness.

Each day will include dance, guided meditation and opportunities to connect with other participants. The dance will usually be with music and will involve guided exploration, exercises and time to follow your own experience in movement.

The retreat is fully catered, with a simple supper on Friday evening, lunch on Saturday and Sunday and tea/coffee and snacks - all vegetarian (vegan and gluten-free options).

Subhanaya and Jane are both Open Floor Movement Practice and meditation teachers, Maitrivira is an experienced and heartful meditation teacher.

The retreat is open to people aged 18+. Beginners or experienced dancers welcome. No experience of meditation is necessary, full guidance will be given.

We suggest that you’ve been to at least one conscious dance class before the retreat (e.g. Open Floor, 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine). If you have any questions please get in touch.

This weekend is an introductory version of our week-long retreat at Dhanakosa Retreat Centre, 29 May-5 Jun 2026, for more on that retreat visit here.
